Edit Room
From UniTimeWiki
Screen Description
The administrative page Edit Room allows the administrator to change properties of the room or any schedule manager to change the properties of his/her Non-University Location.
Details
- Name
- Building abbreviation and room number (only the latter can be changed, except for the name of a non-university location)
- External Id
- External id of the room
- Type
- Room type (only types of rooms can be selected, not outside locations)
- Capacity
- Seating capacity of the room (the maximum number of students who can have a class there at the same time)
- Controlling Department
- The department which has the authority to set up sharing of the room with other departments
- Pick the controlling department from a drop down list
- Coordinates
- Location coordinates of the room on the campus map
- The coordinates are used to calculate distances between rooms (to decide whether the students and instructors can reach that room during the break from their previous location)
- Distance between two rooms is computed as Euclidean distance between coordinates × 10 meters (e.g., distance between coordinates [0,0] and [3,4] is 50 meters)
- Coordinates cannot be negative
- A room with no coordinates is assumed to be too far from any other room (for instructor and student back-to-back constraints)
- If you do not have coordinate system established, entering the same coordinates (e.g., [0,0]) for all rooms will ensure that there will be no "too far" instructor and student back-to-back constraint violations in the problem.
- Ignore Too Far Distances
- Displayed only for non-university locations
- By default unchecked, which means that if a class at this location is back to back with a class on campus, there will be a conflict for students and those back to back classes cannot be taught by the same instructor
- When checked, there is no time conflict between back to back classes (one at this location, the other one on campus) and the classes can be taught by the same instructor
- Ignore Room Checks
- By default unchecked, meaning that there can be only one class in this room at a time
- When checked, more than one class is allowed at that location at the same time
- Examination Room
- Check whether this room can be used for examinations (for final examinations check the Final: checkbox, for midterm examinations the Midterm: checkbox)
- Exam Seating Capacity
- The maximum number of students who can take an examination in that room at the same time
- By default the same as the room capacity
- In many cases this number can reflect alternate seating (every other chair in the room is used for examinations)
- Final Examination Periods Preferences
- Indicate in the period grid which periods are preferred/discouraged/prohibited in that room for final examinations (click on the appropriate square in the legend and then on a square in the time grid; click again on the grid square to undo the preference selection)
- The solver will try to put examinations into this room in preferred periods and not in discouraged periods
- Midterm Examination Preferences
- Indicate in the period grid which periods are preferred/discouraged/prohibited in that room for midterm examinations (click on the appropriate square in the legend and then on a square in the time grid; click again on the grid square to undo the preference selection)
